How can I check my license keys if I’m asked by support?

NOTE FOR PARALLELS DESKTOP 7 FOR MAC / PARALLELS DESKTOP 8 FOR MAC USERS

Parallels Desktop 7 and Parallels Desktop 8 key will not be shown in licenses.xml file. 

Instead, 14-digits secure code will be displayed in the following format: XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. This code is called Product ID. You can find more information about it here:

Once you follow the instructions below and locate your Parallels Desktop 7 / Parallels Desktop 8 Product ID, please contact Parallels Customer Support to decode Product ID and get your Parallels Desktop 7 / Parallels Desktop 8 activation key.

RESOLUTION

Your Parallels Desktop license key(s) will be located in the following file:

/Library/Preferences/Parallels/licenses.xml

NOTE: In case you have Mac OS X Lion installed, you need to click on Go in the top Mac menubar, choose Computerand follow the path above.

If you upgraded to the current version of Parallels Desktop from a previous version, all previous keys will also be stored in that file.

You can open the file in the TextEdit application.

The content of the file that holds your key(s) is similar to the one bellow:

Symptoms

1. Unable to activate Parallels Desktop for Mac with a valid, correct activation key.

2. Every time Mac restarts Parallels Desktop prompts for an activation key.

Cause

Parallels Desktop activation key that is present in the licenses.xml file is not getting recognized by the Parallels Desktop.

Resolution

1. Unable to activate Parallels Desktop for Mac with a valid, correct activation key.

Please perform these actions to solve the issue:

1.    Open Terminal application on Mac located in /Applications/Utilities
   
2.    Paste the command into Terminal as is and hit return (type your password when prompted):

      sudo launchctl stop com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon

3.    Open Finder, go to Macintosh HD /Library/Preferences/Parallels and move licenses.xml file to Trash

Important notice: Library folder may be hidden, so you need to make it visible first

4.    Paste another command into Terminal and hit return:

      sudo launchctl start com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon

These steps are needed to restart Parallels Service and they are safe for Mac OS X .

After the above steps have been followed, please activate Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac again.

2. Every time Mac restarts Parallels Desktop prompts for an activation key.

1. Quit Parallels Desktop.
2. Go to Applications folder -> Utilities -> Terminal.
Run the following commands in Terminal window:

sudo launchctl stop com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon
sudo launchctl start com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon
